MORE ABOUT DR. KNOLMAYER-

Thomas Knolmayer, MD, FACS specializes in General Surgery, Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.  He performs procedures at Mat Su Regional Medical Center and the Surgery Center of Wasilla.  He offers open surgery, advanced laparoscopic procedures and endoscopy. 

Dr. Knolmayer graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1990, then graduated medical school in 1994 from the Uniformed Services University.  He completed a general surgery internship and residency from a combined program with David Grant Medical Center and the University of California at Davis.  He also completed a Fellowship in surgical research.

Dr. Knolmayer served a total of 28 years in the United States Air Force which included four combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan.  He retired in 2014 as a Colonel in the capacity of Chief of Surgery and Master Clinician. 

Dr. Knolmayer has worked as a civilian general and trauma surgeon in the community since 2007 at a number of hospitals including Fairbanks, Ketchikan, Mat Su, Providence Anchorage, Alaska Regional and the Alaska Native Medical Center.  He was one of the founding members of Alaska Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, running the trauma service at Providence Hospital since 2013.  He is returning to the Mat-Su this year to work with the Mat Su Surgical Associates. 

Dr. Knolmayer currently lives in Wasilla with his wife Tina.  He has two adult children, a son Zane and a daughter Madeline.  Dr. Knolmayer enjoys fishing, hiking and racing sled dogs in his spare time.  He has completed the Iditarod four times and a number of mid distance races including the Copper Basin, Knik and Northern Lights.
